In another SSG supported LEED first, le Vistal has been awarded Quebec’s inaugural LEED Gold certification for a residential project.

 “We are so please to have helped the Vistal team achieve its Gold certification,” says SSG Green Building Director, Geneva Guerin at a ceremony to unveil the LEED Gold plaque held on Wednesday, August 24th. “Green building is exploding in Quebec and it’s so nice to be able to bring our experience from the best LEED projects across Canada to la belle province.”

Le Vistal is a 25 story residential tower and spa located on Montreal’s Nuns Island. The building boasts stunning views, and energy efficiency fixtures such as individual suite heat exchangers, a high efficiency condensation boiler for heating water, a Canadian duct for pre-heating/cooling incoming fresh air, and energy efficient photocell sensor lighting for common spaces. The landscaping comprises native or adaptive plant species, requiring low maintenance and watering needs – no potable water is used for landscaping purposes, as needs are met through captured rainwater stored on-site.

Le Vistal is phase one of a two phase project. The second Vistal residential tower is expected to achieve a LEED Gold certification in 2012.

SSG has been at the forefront of LEED building in Canada since 2002, having participated in the first LEED certified building (Vancouver Island Technology Park), the first LEED Platinum multi-family residential building (The Vento, Calgary), the largest LEED platinum building (Vancouver Convention Centre), and the highest ranking LEED Platinum building (Dockside Green, Victoria) in the country.
