SSG was hired by the Sustainable Development sub-committee of the Joint Federal Provincial Policy Working Group to complete a scan of best practices related to sustainable buildings.

• Creating a Best Practices analysis.

• Providing strategy recommendations.

• Analyzing policies and programs from various international jurisdictions.

In our research, we identified best practices in government policy for sustainable building in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Mexico. We evaluated these case studies for relevance, innovation, and history and narrowed in on three countries that we analyzed in greater detail. We used our international networks to identify key contacts in these countries and conducted interviews in different languages. Our analysis revealed clear policy drivers and barriers that we identified in our strategic recommendations.
