With the support of the Green Building BC Roundtable (Government of British Columbia, BC Hydro, Cascadia Region Green Building Council and about 10 other organizations), SSG developed a set of in-depth IDP resources as well as full- and half-day IDP training courses. The course was created to enhance the capacities of those involved in high performance building design, construction, and operations in delivering those projects using IDP. The participants in the course include building owners and operators, project managers, design and construction teams, facilitators, green building experts, and others involved in project management, design and ownership. The materials include a comprehensive description of the roles, skills, tools and strategies to design, facilitate, and participate in a highly successful IDP from project conception through to post-occupancy.

• Researching background materials on areas as diverse as adult education, facilitation, IDP, and high performance buildings.

• Researching, writing, and designing an IDP facilitation resource guide. 

• Designing two IDP courses (1/2 and full day). 

• Delivering the IDP training sessions. 

• Creating and facilitating the start-up of an online IDP community.

We brought together a diverse team of practitioners with experience in facilitation, adult education, and high performance building design. We drew extensively on studies into the discipline of facilitation and applied our findings to the design of high performance buildings and sustainable communities. Our expertise in adult education, LEED, green and sustainable buildings and communities, facilitation, and IDP was integrated into practical and accessible tools. In recognition of the dynamic and evolving nature of IDP, we initiated an online community of practice to share stories of IDP and IDP facilitation, share tools and resources, have discussions on topics of interest, blog, and meet others working on developing their IDP facilitation skills. Once this project was complete, SSG worked with the Canada and Cascadia Green Building Councils to deliver this course across Canada, and also developed an adapted 6 hour long course focusing on IDP for project managers, that was delivered to both the BC and Alberta governments.
