In order for the US Green Building Councils’ LEED for Homes certification to be available in Canada, the Rating System had to be adjusted to reflect the context of the Canadian residential building sector. SSG worked with the Canada Green Building Council to convert the rating system which is now being rolled out across Canada, with more than 500 homes registered.

• Providing green building expertise. 

• Researching national green building policy, standards and trends. 

• Converting various formulas including the home-size adjuster. 

• Developing recommendations for a Canadian LEED for Homes Rating System.

We provided a thorough and detailed approach to converting a highly technical document. Simply adapting the new system was insufficient; it needed adaptation to the Canadian context. To build the capacity of Canadian providers to achieve this new standard, SSG helped establish The Thermalwise Workers Cooperative, the LEED for Homes provider in the Maritime provinces. Thermalwise is now the go-to service in the Maritimes for sustainable buildings at the household scale.
