Set in a beautiful natural environment near Victoria, View Royal has experienced increased residential development in recent years. Increased pressure on its municipal capacity led the town to seek to redefine itself through an updated OCP that addresses issues of economic and cultural diversification as well as climate change.

• Analyzing energy and greenhouse gas emissions baselines.

• Performing preliminary greenhouse gas emissions land use modelling.

• Developing environmental, social and economic sustainability indicators.

• Providing sustainability policy recommendations.

SSG prepared a high level sustainability analysis of View Royal using its innovative Land Use GHG Emissions Model and drawing from current land use practices and GHG and energy use baseline analyses. Based on this analysis SSG is developing sustainability targets, indicators and actions to achieve agreed upon GHG reductions.

 

Careful indicator selection and ambitious yet realistic target-setting will ensure the OCP has a measurable effect on elements such as emissions, energy, land use, community health, economic well-being, cultural opportunity, and equity, to name a few. This will allow View Royal to address the challenge of mitigating climate change in a suburban community and meet its obligations under the BC Climate Charter as well as fostering a healthy, resilient community for its residents and visitors.
