Description

A visionary building and plaza expansion project on a 3.25-hectare site immediately west of Canada Place projecting out over the waters of Burrard Inlet. Home to some of the world’s most important conferences and media centre for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

Innovations and Achievements

• The first LEED Platinum convention centre in Canada.
• A six acre “living roof”, one of the largest of its kind in the world and home to 20 varieties of plant life. The roof is pollinated by local bee hives and is designed to provide a nesting ground for local birds.
• Extensive day lighting, natural ventilation, and rainwater reuse.
• A foundation designed to recreate a natural shoreline for marine life.
• A seawater heating and cooling system that makes the convention centre one of the most energy efficient buildings in Vancouver.
• On-site black-water treatment for re-use in roof irrigation and flush toilets.
• Extensive use of regional materials including the unique glazing systems, concrete, surfacing materials and lumber pile-imitation wall finish.
